Muhammad Tahir Lakhani
Mr. Tahir is a keen sportsman and has already represented Pakistan at the Davis Cup. He played tennis as a professional and was also part of Junior Wimbledon.
Mr. Tahir primed the shipping industry as his business venture and started exploring for the same from an early age. He started working in a ship recycling yard in his early 20’s and where he put forth 12-man hour shifts from 8 am to 8 pm. He was known to be a remarkable performer and gave a due representation of his dedication. His major work profile dealt with cutting the steel plates and overseeing their sales to traders on-site.
With his work experience in the shipping industry, he sought to make a name for himself and moved to Dubai to start his venture. He started in 1985 as a trader for old ships. He bought the old ships and sold them for decommissioning to the ship recycling yards. He was one of the first cash buyer based in UAE to start the operation. He continued his business operations and attained enormous growth becoming one of the biggest names in the ship trading industry. His company bought and sold over 100 ships approximately in a year.
He expanded his business operations with the purchase of three Ex-Adriatic tankers VLCCs in the international waters in 1996. This deal was concluded as one of the largest ship demolition deals done by Mr. Tahir. He sold off the ships to Pakistan for decommissioning. With the business growing ever so increasingly, he sought to venture into the international platform and moved to the UK in 1999 to build connections and contacts.
It was in 2009, that Mr. Tahir became a citizen of the British Empire. He continued his venture to and fro from Dubai and the UK. He, later on, moved back in 2014 to Dubai in a bid to scale the business volumes.
